Dear friends! We welcome you to our traditional Spring School of Scottish Dancing! We have prepared fascinating program and have invited new interesting teachers. Come to us - to learn, to dance and to communicate, to make friends and to get something new.

The Fourth Spring School of Scottish Dancing was held in Yaroslavl from May 5 to 9, 2016. There were more than 145 people from all parts of Russia attending the School this year, and this is a new record!

There were 11 two-hours Scottish Country Dancing classes taught by Jamie Berg and Andrew Nolan, 4 Highland Dancing classes with Jan-Louise Doherty, 5 Ladies' step classes taught by Sergey Alferov and 3 Cape Breton classes with Jamie Berg and Anton Klinkov.

As in previous year, the competitions on solo step dancing and UKA exams were organized.

All participants had a good time on social dancing on May 6 with Andrew Nolan playing piano, and on ball on May 8 with the live music by White Heather Band (Anna Kovaleva played piano and Vladimir Volkov played violin). On May 7 there was fiery Ceilidh with music by Wallace Band from Moscow. On the first evening on the school many of the dancers went to a social dancing programme walkthrough, which was combined with barbecue party prepared by Krasnodar team.

There were many participants in the traditional Festival of Scottish Country Dancing. Seven teams from Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Nizhny Novgorod, Perm, Cheboksary, Krasnodar and Saratov competed in the prescribed dance category. The team "Beltane Bonfires" from Cheboksary took the first place. For the display dance there were 4 competitors - from Saint Petersburg, Cheboksary, Krasnodar and a joint team from Moscow and Nizhny Novgorod. The winner was "Schiehallion" from Saint Petersburg, participating in the Festival for the first time.  The Shady Glen dance group presented a dance hors concours, also there was a display dance by the students of the Ladies' step dance class.

The Third Spring School of Scottish Dancing was held in Nizhny Novgorod from April 30 to May 4, 2015. The organizers were RSCDS Moscow Branch and Moscow Scottish Dancing School Shady Glen (UKA). More than 93 dancers from 15 cities (from Moscow to Vladivostok, from Krasnodar to Perm) attended the school.

There were Scottish Country Dancing workshops by Helen Russell and Lindsay Ibbotson, Highland Dancing workshops by Mylene Frazer, and Ladies' Step workshops by Sergey Alferov. 

The RSCDS Unit 5 teaching exams were organized for the first time in Russia. Four candidates - Anton Klinkov from Krasnodar, Evgeny Salmin and Irina Gorelova from Cheboksary and Ekaterina Baskakova from Yaroslavl took the course by Helen Russell and successfully passed exam for RSCDS Teaching Certificate Part 2.

There were competitions on Highland and Ladies' Step dancing for children and adults, as well as UKA exams.

Ceilidh, social dancing, Scottish ball and Festival of Scottish Country Dancing demonstration teams were organized. The festival had two categories - perscribed dance and display dance. For this time 6 teams were competing - two teams from Moscow, and teams from Nizhny Novgorod, Cheboksary, Krasnodar and Perm. As in previous year, the winner in both categories was Sinn Araon team from Krasnodar.

And, surely, there were traditional open air evenings with barbecue made by leader of Krasnodar team Anton Klinkov.

The Second Spring School of Scottish Dancing was organized in Vladimir from 1 to 4 May 2014. Vladimir is a small old town, located within two hours by train from Moscow. The town is a part of the Golden Ring of Russia.

More than 85 people from 12 cities (not including teachers, organizers, musicians and spectators) attended the School.

The school programme included workshops on Scottish Country Dancing for intermediate and advanced dancers.

The Dancing Proficiency Assessment (DPA) exam was held. This exam, developed by Royal Scottish Country Dance Society, is intended for all dancers. It helps dancers to evaluate their dancing skills. There are three levels of DPA, the exam of second level was held on the school. There were special course for those who wanted to pass an exam. 19 people took part in the course.

Our teachers were Malcolm Brown and Helen Russell, well known in Russia, and Mervin Short - a new teacher for Russian dancers. All teachers were very high level. Helen Russell is official RSCDS examiner, Malcolm Brown is one of the most experienced old school teachers, and Mervin Short is brilliant dancer and outstanding and thorough teacher with very strong technique.

There were organized workshops by Helen Russell on Ladies' Step and by Maria Zot'ko on Highland. Also we had a festival of Scottish Country Dancing demonstration teams. 5 teams (two teams from Moscow, as well as teams from Krasnodar, Nizhny Novgorod and Cheboksary) participated in the competition, and one team performed hors concours. The winner was "Sinn Araon" team from Krasnodar.

There were two social dancing evenings and Scottish ball, as well as city sightseeing tour and barbecue party. The tasty barbecue was made by leader of the Krasnodar team Anton Klinkov.
